Tour de Yorkshire
In 2016 the Tour de Yorkshire and the Santos Tour Down Under formalised a partnership to see both events promoted globally.
Over the last two years this has continued to further strengthen the already great relationship between Yorkshire and Australia, sharing knowledge and working in collaboration on a global platform to promote both events.
For the first time in 2018, the Tour de Yorkshire took part in the Subaru Tour Parade with a giant Y on the roof for all to see, carefully constructed by the team at the Credit Union Christmas Pageant.
The Tour de Yorkshire took place on 3 – 6 May 2018 and is an annual international cycle race (organised in partnership by Welcome to Yorkshire and A.S.O.) taking in some of the UKs most spectacular scenery.
Holding a 2.1 European tour UCI classification, every year this event attracts some of the most famous names in the sport – Caleb Ewan, Nathan Haas, Thomas Voeckler, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Marcel Kittel and 2017 champion Serge Pauwels having all competed on Yorkshire soil.
The third edition of the Tour de Yorkshire took place in April 2017 and saw a record 2.2 million spectators lining the route and generated £64 million for the Yorkshire economy. The action was also beamed live in 180 countries and attracted 9.7 million global TV viewers.
Tour de Yorkshire chief executive Sir Gary Verity is excited about an expanded race in 2018.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the fourth edition of the Tour de Yorkshire – a race which is now considered one of cycling’s most dramatic and best supported events," Sir Verity said.
"Seeing it develop as a legacy of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Depart is one of Welcome to Yorkshire’s proudest achievements, and it still gives me goosebumps whenever I see masses of cycling fans lining our country’s roads.”
"The race is going from strength to strength and in 2018 we are delighted to see the men’s race growing from three to four days this year, and the women’s race doubling in size from one day to two.
"This will help us attract even bigger names and give us the ability to design a more varied route which showcases Yorkshire’s stunning scenery as well as delivering spectacular action."
Look out for the big yellow ‘Y’ in the Subaru Tour Parade or stop by the City of Adelaide Tour Village to say hello to the team from Yorkshire.
Made for Cycling
Not only is Yorkshire the largest county in Britain, it is also wonderfully diverse, offering romantic moorland, pretty villages, lively cities and grand coastlines.
You’ll find world-class attractions, award winning sights and Michelin Star restaurants aplenty, but you’ll also discover that Yorkshire has retained its own charm.
With three National Parks – the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and the Peak District – you won’t find better countryside anywhere in Britain.
The fourth edition promises to be equally spectacular and is a race not to be missed!
