Beat the Street Time Trial
The geniuses who brought fans the Carpark Climb return to the Santos Tour Down Under with a new addition to the 11-day festival of cycling – the Santos Tour Down Under Beat the Street Time Trial.
The concept is simple: a fast-paced hot dog loop around Flinders Street adjacent to the City of Adelaide Tour Village where groups of four riders will set a time over two laps – or 1km.
The best individual time-setters will be rewarded with a spot in the final.
Strictly limited to 120 racers, the event will debut on Thursday 17 January.
“We are constantly looking to push the envelope when it comes to staging world-class tourism events and we know the ‘Hot Dog’ night street circuit will provide an additional drawcard for cycling enthusiasts in the heart of the city,’’ said South Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway.
“Spectators will be spoilt for choice, with the Unley Gourmet Gala on the same evening as a prelude to the Santos Tour Down Under 100% Stage 4 Start.”
VTWO Events will once again develop and run the event, riding off the momentum of the Carpark Climb that wowed competitors and spectators alike over the previous two editions of the Santos Tour Down Under.
“We think they will love this one – it’s fast and punchy and encourages spectators to get really close to the action,” said managing director of VTWO Events Andy Gooding.
Overall winners will be determined by the lowest combined time from their two attempts with the winners in all four categories being presented with an original piece of memorabilia.
