Adelaide again played host in 2015 to Australia’s most prestigious cycling event, the Santos Tour Down Under.

Broadcast exclusively across the Nine Network and Gem, the seven-day event that winds through Adelaide’s picturesque wine and coastal regions starred a host of the world’s best riders, including Tour de France winner Cadel Evans who lined up for his final UCI WorldTour race before his retirement.

Calling all the action was the international voice of cycling, sports broadcasting legend Phil Liggett, along with his long-time commentary partner Paul Sherwen and Australian cycling legend Robbie McEwen.

Coverage of the opening round of the UCI WorldTour commenced with the People’s Choice Classic on Sunday 18 January, followed by Stages 1-6 of the Santos Tour Down Under from Tuesday 20 January.

As the world’s best road cyclists raced through the streets of Adelaide, cycling fans again saw the action live on Nine and Gem. The Nine Network, which broadcast the event for the fourth time, presented 26½ hours of Santos Tour Down Under coverage, showcasing the thrilling final two and a half hours of each of the first four stages LIVE on Gem and Nine.

To cap off an intense week of cycling the entire final two stages of the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under were broadcast LIVE on Nine on Saturday 24 January from 11.30am AEDT, and Sunday 25 January from 1.30pm.

The world-renowned cycling event was also covered in Nine News updates, as well as regular reports on the Today Show and Weekend Today Show.

Today Show Sports presenter Tim Gilbert hosted the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under for Gem and the Nine Network while his Wide World of Sports co-host, Olympian John Steffensen took part in the official BUPA Challenge Tour, cycling 151.7km from Glenelg to Mount Barker. 

The Wide World of Sports website provided complementary coverage of the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under, featuring live streaming from each stage, video highlights, interviews and features, the latest news and results, expert opinion and photo galleries from the race.

Radio Coverage

Every day, Triple M had live, real time updates from every stage of the race with Triple M’s Emma Charlton.

After the race, the Rush Hour captured the colour and excitement of the event when Triple M broadcast live from the Adelaide City Council Tour Village and Bike Expo in Victoria Square.

Jars and Louie spoke to some of the biggest names in the cycling world from 3pm - 6pm every day until Friday. 

On Sunday 25 January, the final day of the Santos Tour Down Under, Sean Craig Murphy soaked up the after-race party back at the Tour Village from 2pm on 1047 Classic Triple M.
