One of the biggest names in Italian world cycling took centre stage at the Legends’ Night Dinner as part of 2016 Santos Tour Down Under.
One-day race specialist Paolo Bettini, who claimed victory due to his strength and sprinting ability, enthralled guests with his stories and experiences.
Bettini was the UCI Road World Champion in 2006 and 2007 as well as winning the UCI Road World Cup consecutively for three years in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
He has had victories at the 2000 and 2002 Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Giro di Lombardia in both 2005 and 2006 as well as overall honours at the Milano-Sanremo and the Clásica de San Sebastián in 2003. In 2004, Paolo won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the Men’s Road Race.
“I have heard many great things about the Tour Down Under and am looking forward to seeing the race in action for myself,” he said of coming to Adelaide in 2016.
“I am deeply touched and never thought throughout my career I would be honored in such a way. I can’t wait to travel to South Australia and meet the fans.”
