The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the world governing body for the sport of cycling, recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The UCI was founded in Paris in 1900, and its headquarters are now located at the UCI’s World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland.
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)’s commitment is to lead the development of cycling as a competitive sport and activity in all its forms, across the world.
In 2008, the Santos Tour Down Under joined the prestigious UCI WorldTour; the first event outside cycling's traditional home of Europe to do so. The UCI WorldTour brings together the most prestigious teams and the best riders in the world to compete in the best races.
WorldTeams are guaranteed to be the cream of the crop in the world of cycling. The riders and teams are chosen carefully on the basis of financial, ethical, administration and sporting standards by the UCI.
Each UCI WorldTeam must participate in every UCI WorldTour event.
