Ag2r La Mondiale

Ag2r La Mondiale will be the only team to have competed in all fourteen editions of the race.

The French Ag2r team has produced the most overall winners of the Santos Tour Down Under, taking out honours in 2000 (Gilles Maignan FRA), 2003 (Mikel Astarloza ESP), 2006 (Simon Gerrans AUS) and 2007 (Martin Elmiger SUI).

Ag2r won the Brilliant Blend Team Classification to make them the overall winning team at the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under.

BMC Racing Team

BMC Racing Team rode their first Santos Tour Down Under in 2010 as a wild card entry by invitation only.

Australia’s Cadel Evans is the lead rider for BMC Racing Team and rode the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under, finishing sixth overall, and then making history by going on to be the first Australian to ever win the Tour de France in 2011.

BMC racing Team was founded in 2007 (based in the USA) competing as a UCI Professional Continental team and was first awarded a ProTeam licence in 2011.

BMC Racing is a Swiss based bicycle manufacturer.

Sky Pro Cycling

Britain’s professional road cycling team, Team Sky made their UCI ProTour debut and first appearance at the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under.

Team Sky’s goal is to create the first British winner of the Tour de France within five years.

Geraint Thomas, Christopher Sutton, Michael Rogers and Mathew Hayman all rode the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under.

Edvald Boasson Hagen is the current Norwegian National Time Trial Champion for the fifth year running (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011). Edvald is a two time Tour de France stage winner (2011 Tour de France, Stage 6 and Stage 17). His stage win on Stage 6 made it the first ever victory by a British registered professional cycling team in the Tour de France.

Astana Pro Team

At the end of the 2010 cycling season, Astana was the third highest ranked cycling team in the world.

Astana attained UCI ProTeam status in its inaugural year, 2007.

Since the team’s inception in 2007 it has been based in Switzerland (2007), Luxembourg (2008) and Kazakhstan (2009 – present).

Equipe Cycliste FDJ – Big MAT

Equipe Cycliste FDJ – Big Mat returns to the UCI WorldTour for 2012, after having a Professional Continental ranking in 2011. 

Veteran Frenchman, Frederic Guesdon who recently turned 40, brings a wealth of experience to the team. Guesdon won the Paris Roubaix in 1997 and Paris Tours in 2006.

Jussi Veikkanen is a five time National Road Race Champion for Finland and will be one to watch on the ŠKODA King of the Mountain climbs along with Jeremy Roy.

Jeremy Roy wore the King of the Mountain jersey on Stage 13 of the Tour de France in 2011.

Euskaltel Euskadi

Euskaltel Euskadi is commercially sponsored, but also works as an unofficial Basque national team and is partly funded by the Basque Government.

Euskaltel Euskadi is famous for its all-orange team kits.

The team was created in 1994 and although the team is commercially sponsored, it also works as an unofficial Basque national team and is partly funded by the Basque Government.

The Euskaltel Euskadi team currently preparing for the Santos Tour Down Under includes three new arrivals for their 2012 season, all debuting with the team in Adelaide. Ricardo García, Victor Cabedo and Adrián Sáez de Arregi are all joining Euskaltel Euskadi from the Orbea Continental team.

Garmin - Barracuda

Team Garmin-Transitions and Cervélo joined forces for the 2011 season to create a new team that has been known as Garmin-Cervélo.

The team sponsors share the key philosophies of developing the next generation of cycling champions and declare an unwavering commitment to ethical sport.

The goals for 2012 continue to derive from the ethos of the organization, that of team achievement over that of the individual.

This philosophy saw the team reach new heights in 2011, from the Classics to the Grand Tours and beyond.

Garmin Cervelo had their strongest season in the history of the team in 2011, and willl be looking to build on that success in 2012.

Orica GreenEDGE Cycling

Orica GreenEDGE Cycling is the first ever Australian professional cycling team. 

The Orica GreenEDGE team line up includes three past Santos Tour Down Under winners (Cameron Meyer, Simon Gerrans and Stuart O’Grady).

In December 2011, Orica GreenEDGE Cycling was awarded a UCI licence for the WorldTour for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Orica GreenEDGE will make their WorldTour debut at the Santos Tour Down Under in 2012.

Orica GreenEDGE launched their campaign to secure a WorldTour licence at the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under.

Cameron Meyer, reigning Santos Tour Down Under winner and Australian National Time Trial Champion will headline the Orica GreenEDGE seven-rider squad for 2012 Santos Tour Down Under.

Lampre - ISD

Italian team, Lampre-ISD has selected the fastest riders on their roster to take to the start line of the 2012 Santos Tour Down Under with the aim of a sprint start to the season.

Lampre produces metal panels for white goods such as washing machines.

Alessandro Petacchi will be riding the Santos Tour Down Under for the first time in 2012

Alessandro Petacchi is a specialist sprinter who has achieved 48 Grand Tour stage wins to date (6 Tour de France, 22 Giro d’Italia and 20 Vuelta a Espana).

Liquigas - Cannondale

The Liquigas team was founded in 1999.

Stefano Agostini joins Liquigas – Cannondale for the 2012 season, making his professional debut as a neo pro.

Liquigas-Cannondale’s Kristijan Koren made his Grand Tour debut in the 2010 Tour de France, a highlight of this debut was his performance featuring in the breakaway on Stage 17.

The Liquigas team had an amazing 2010 season, placing riders on the final podium of two of the year's three grand tours (Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana)

Liquigas is committed to the development of the future champions of cycling and runs Camp Liquigas a proper cycling school for children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old. This initiative is now in its third year and brings together budding young cyclists with riders from the ProTeam.

Lotto - Belisol

Belisol is a renowned Belgian company that also has ambitions internationally, and has experience in sports. Belisol announced a three year partnership with the team and is an ideal partner for the team’s historic sponsor Lotto.

Belgium Lotto has a long history of cycling sponsorship, commencing in 1984 with Tönissteiner-Lotto-Mavic-Pecotex. In 1985, it became prime sponsor of a team bearing only its name.

Andre Greipel returns to ride the Santos Tour Down Under in 2012. In 2010 Greipel became only the second person in the event’s history to win two editions of the race. He won in 2008 and 2010.

Movistar

During the 2011 season the Movistar team raced 274,509 km and had 21 victories. 

Rider, Alejandro Valverde is a Grand Tour winner, taking honours at the 2009 Vuelta a Espana.

He is a three time Tour de France stage winner, has overall honours in the Liège–Bastogne–Liège in 2006 and earnt the title of UCI ProTour rider of the year in 2006 and 2008.

Team Movistar revealed its new look for the 2011 season in December 2010 rolling out a simple, uncluttered blue and green design with the 'M' logo of its title sponsor.

Printed on the back of the neck of the jersey is the team's motto "Compartida, la vida es más" (Shared, life is more).

Omega Pharma Quick – Step

Omega Pharma and Quick-Step have joined forces in 2012 to present a Belgian super cycling team.

Both sponsors were first name sponsors of their own teams in 2011 but are joining forces for the new season, having previously working together in 2003 and 2005. 

Gerald Ciolek, Vuelta a Espana stage winner (Stage 2, 2009) and German National Road Race Champion (2005) will headline the Omega Pharma Quick-Step team for the 2012 Santos Tour Down Under.

The team are riding with Specialised bikes and helmets.

Rabobank

Rabobank is Holland’s largest financial services provider with more than 9 million accounts.

Mark Renshaw joins the Rabobank team in 2012 and is considered one of the best lead out men in the world, spending the last few years at HTC-Highroad with Mark Cavendish.

Luis Leon Sanchez won the overall Santos Tour Down Under in 2005. Sanchez is a three time Tour de France stage winner (2008, 2009, 2011) and a three time Spanish National Time Trial Champion (2008, 2010, 2011). 

Michael ‘Bling’ Matthews made his professional cycling debut with Rabobank in 2011. Matthews is a Santos Tour Down Under stage winner (2011 race, Stage 3) and finished fourth overall.

Graeme Brown was third on Stage 2 of the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under and is a dual Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

Radioshack – Nissan

Team Leopard Trek and RadioShack have joined forces for the 2012 and 2013 cycling seasons.

Leopard will continue to hold its existing UCI WorldTour License and the team will be re-branded as RadioShack-Nissan Professional Cycling Team as of 2012.

The RadioShack-Nissan team roster for 2012 is made up of 30 riders, from 14 different nationalities. 

Italian sprinter, Daniele Bennati will lead the RadioShack-Nissan team at the 2012 Santos Tour Down Under. This will be his first appearance at the race.

Jens Voight is a three time Tour de France stage winner and one time Giro d’Italia stage winner.

Jesse Sergent is an Olympic medallist (bronze) as part of the New Zealand team pursuit squad at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Team Katusha

Team Katusha made their UCI ProTour debut in 2009 at the 2009 Santos Tour Down Under.

The team is organised by the Russian Global Cycling Project foundation.

During its third season, the Katusha team reached 67 podium places (with 22 victories), winning World Tour races in three continents: Europe, Asia and Oceania.

At the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under, Katusha finished fourth in the Brilliant Blend Winning Team classification.

Oscar Freire is a three time World Road Race Champion (1999, 2001 and 2004). He is a winner of four stages at the Tour de France, a winner of the Tour de France’s Green Jersey (2008), a winner of seven stages of Vuelta a Espana and three times winner of the “Classicissima” Milan – San Remo (2004, 2007 and 2010).

Team Saxo Bank

Brad McGee became a Sports Director at Team Saxo Bank in 2009. He had 17 UCI victories throughout his professional career.

In June 2008, Saxo Bank signed on as new team sponsor and is the title sponsor for the team.

New Team Saxo Bank signing for the 2012 season, Takashi Miyazawa will be sure to become a crowd favourite as the first Japanese rider to take to the start line in the history of the Santos Tour Down Under. Miyazawa is the 2010 Japanese Road Race National Champion.

Sergio Paulinho last rode the Santos Tour Down Under in 2005. Paulinho is a two time Tour de France stage winner, Vuelta a Espana stage winner and two time Portugese National Champion (2004 and 2008).

In 2011, Luke Roberts won the overall Skoda King of the Mountain classification at the Santos Tour Down Under.

Team UniSA – Australia

2012 will see UniSA's involvement in the Santos Tour Down Under reach a 12 year milestone.

Over the past 12 years, the team has had many highlights.

In 2001, Gene Bates won the Share the Road Young Rider jersey. In 2004, Patrick Jonker claimed overall victory. In 2006, the team won the team classification in 2006. In 2006, Paul Crake and Russel Van Hout rode courageously in 42 degree heat, taking second and first at Willunga.

Karl Menzies' placed second overall in 2007.

Jack Bobridge showcased his explosive riding in 2009 and Luke Roberts took Skoda King of the Mountain GC honours in 2011.

The UniSA Australia team is granted special permission by the UCI to compete at this WorldTour event.

Vacansoleil - DCM

Vacansoleil-DCM joined the ProTeam ranks in 2011, having been granted a UCI WorldTour Professional licence.

The team was founded in 2008. The team's title sponsor is a European company which organizes luxury camping holidays.

In 2007 Romain Feillu won the Tour of Britain. In 2008 he went on to win Stage 4 of the Tour de France claiming the yellow jersey and finishing first in the Young Rider Classification for this stage.

In 2011 Thomas de Gendt took stage wins at both the Tour of Switzerland and Paris – Nice.

Woulter Mol won the 2010 Tour of Qatar.
