McLaren Vale and Willunga crowned winners of Santos Best Dressed Town
McLaren Vale and Willunga have been crowned joint winners for Jayco Stage Five Santos Best Dressed Town competition.
Willunga carefully placed decorated bikes in the forks of the trees lining the race route. They also hand-made a paper maché pig who looked like he was about to take flight on his painted red bike.
McLaren Vale went for a different approach with embellished bike wheels hanging from the ceiling of the rotunda. They also displayed children’s bikes with coloured yarn mounted to the fence located along the race route.
The winner of the Santos best dressed commercial property for Jayco Stage Five was Willunga Hotel.
The old style hotel hung giant Australian flags from the balcony in honour of the national day and had colour appropriate balloons.
A private residence entry decorated their two-storey home in a Mexican theme complete with sombreros and Australiana green and gold bikes hanging from the balcony alongside signs supporting their favourite teams.
The Santos Best Dressed Town Competition has been a part of the Santos Tour Down Under since the first race in 1999. The competition gives South Australian suburbs, businesses and households a chance to be a part of the excitement during the Santos Festival of Cycling.
Stage winners of the Best Dressed Town competition will win prizes including framed and signed race jerseys, gift packs and garden products from Peats Soil and Garden Supplies.
Tomorrow’s race will see the Adelaide City Council Street Circuit Stage Six of the Santos Tour Down Under, the final stage of the Santos Tour Down Under.
